Hello Everyone,
I just wanted to let you all know about something exciting that's currently happening in one of the Campus Outreach regions in our cluster. We are part of a three region cluster made up of CO Greenville (which is our region), Co Charlotte, CO Lynchburg. Basically a cluster is a group of CO regions that work closely together to plan large events and share ideas. Since CO began in 1980 the strategy for ministry growth and expansion has been establish a region (a few campuses in close proximity), bring them to a healthy place spiritually with students walking with the Lord, raise up a healthy and large staff team, and begin to ask God where the next expansion might be. Over the past two and a half years CO Charlotte has been praying over the potential of expanding to the Washington DC area. After extensive prayer, networking, and communication with Capital Hill Baptist Church, pastored by Mark Dever, the team is almost ready to go. The new DC Staff team are currently spread from NC to Nashville to Maryland and New Jersey trying to build a support base large enough to support the increased cost of living in DC. Their prayer is to all be in DC by June with the intention of beginning their ministry in the DC area this coming fall. Below i've attached a section of an update e-mail we received from David Russell, the CO DC Director.
"Right now, we are moving on George Washington University for our first campus. It is right in the heart of the city and has an undergraduate population of 10,000 students. It is a very urban campus, maybe the most urban of any campus we are on. You can hardly distinguish it from the city buildings surrounding it. It does have one of the largest dorms in the country---Thurston Hall which houses nearly 1,200 freshmen! I met with some students who started their own ministry there. They are the largest campus ministry at 30 students! They were asking me to please come and start ministry there. GW was founded by Luther Rice (missionary partner of Adoniram Judson) as a school to train ministers. May God use as an instrument to reclaim this campus with the Gospel!
Our plan is to bring four more staff up in the summer of 2011 to start more campuses. Options include American University, Georgetown, Maryland, George Mason, Howard and others."
